29 Jul Surfing the Mediterranean Sea 🌊
You’d rather believe it, there is surf in the Mediterranean Sea. And it gets actually very exciting. This sea is pretty unpredictable. Looking at the forecast already gets you so thrilled because you know you’ll have to go on a little search later on. Finding the best wave for you to ride involves a bit of driving around. You only have an idea of where you could go to, a surf check is definitely needed to make sure you find your best wave.
With the wind comes the swell. You can feel, in that stormy atmosphere, this moment when everything seems immobilised when the time stops. The suspense is intense while you’re on your way, driving to the sea. Every beach, every cove, every nook is a possibility for some surf. You see the parked cars on the side of the main road and walk the tiny track to the spot.
Breathing the smell of thyme and rosemary, walking in the high grass and the bush you can hear the sound of the waves breaking. And there they are, rolling behind the pine trees. People are watching them, among them are your friends. In this growing community, everybody knows each other. After a little, while watching the fun surf, you and your mates decide to walk back to the cars and put those wetsuits on. Waxing your boards and laughing, you feel like you’re living a precious moment and you are right, you do.
Those landscapes you’re surfing in, those cliffs and trees, the colours of the sky and sea are remarkable and very specific to the Mediterranean. You are surfing the rare but precious waves it has to offer when it decides to. You can feel lucky to be able to surf in a stubborn sea.
